MARIANNA—The Chipola Indians (26-4) will play Palm Beach, Thursday, March 7, at 6 p.m. (EST) in the FCSAA State Tournament, March 7-9, in Ocala.
Tournament games will be webcast on the FCSAA Digital Network at: team#1sports.com/fcsaa. Live game updates will be on Twitter at @thefcsaa.
First year Chipola head coach Brendan Foley says, “We’re looking forward to a rematch with Palm Beach. We lost to them 88-83 in December. Coach McCann does a great job. They’ve got a good team with a good roster. From a competitive standpoint, when someone beats you, you want to play them again.”
As far as his team’s preparation for state, Foley says, “Conference takes its toll on a team. We’ve taken a couple of days off to recharge and heal. But we’ve got good depth and we’ve worked hard. If we can stay focused mentally, we should be ok.”
Chipola finished as the runner-up in the Panhandle Conference behind champion Northwest Florida State. The Indians made it to the championship of the 2018 FCSAA Championship where they lost to Northwest. The brackets are set up for a possible state title game between Chipola and Northwest. The final men’s Panhandle Conference records are: Northwest (10-2), Chipola (9-3), Tallahassee is (6-6), Pensacola (3-9) and Gulf Coast (2-10).
The Indians are second in the state in points per game with 94.0. Chipola allows opponents only 73.1 points per game.
Chipola is ninth in the NJCAA National Poll and third in the FCSAA State poll.
The Indians finished the season with a 99-84 win over Gulf Coast on Feb. 23. Keishawn Brewton led Chipola with 36 points. Daniel Oladapo scored 17. LaQuan Butler added 13.
