Winners at Chipola Festival recognized at School Board meeting ……………

Seven Washington County students who placed in the recent Chipola Language and Literature Festival were recognized at Monday night’s meeting of the Washington County School Board. Recognized were:

  • Abby Sapp – She placed 3rd in the Prepared Speech Contest
  • Sara Padgett – She placed 2nd in the Prepared speech Contest
  • Leo Pan – He earned an Honorable Mention in the Humanities Contest
  • Emily Broom – She took 1st place in the Essay Writing Contest
  • Elijah Wells – He placed 1st in Oral Interpretation
  • Ashtin Williams – He placed 3rd in the Literature Contest
  • Jayla Kindelspire – She placed 1st in the Literature Contest
  • Jayle Kindelspire also earned the Presidential Medal for the President’s Reading Contest

Closing out Monday night’s meeting the School Board voted 5-0 to approve the bid submitted by Oliver Sperry Renovation in Tallahassee for construction of new restrooms for the Chipley High School Football Field.

Working their way through the formal agenda, the School Board took the following actions:

  • Approved payment of monthly bills.
  • Approved the Financial Report and Budget Amendments.
  • Approved the minutes of Feb. 4th Special Board Meeting; Feb. 11th Regular Board meeting; and Feb. 18th Workshop.
  • Approved contract with Vis-abilities for Visually Empaired Services.
  • Approved out-of-state travel for CHS Physics Class Field Trip to Farley Nuclear Plant in Dothan, Alabama on March 19th.
  • Approved out-of-state travel for CHS Experimental Science/AVID students to Wild Adventures in Valdosta, Georgia on April 26th.
  • Approved out-of-state travel for KMS 3rd grade end-of-the-year field trip to Landmark Park in Dothan, Alabama on April 9th.
  • Approved WCEA and WCSB Master Teacher contract for 2018-2021.
  • Approved annual Certficaiton of Facilities Data.
  • Approved out-of-state travel for VMS Class trip to tour the Washington, D.C. on April 8 – 12.
  • Approved out-of–state travel for VMS and VHS AVID to Valdosta State University Tour/Wild Adventure Physic Tour in Valdosta, Georgia on April 5th.
  • Approved Project Graduation donation
  • Approved 2019-2020 Florida School Board Annual Dues
  • Approved out-of-state travel for VHS Football players to attend the Opening Regional Combine on March 23-24 in Atlanta, Georgia.
  • Approved out-of-state travel for VHS Football players to compete in the Rivals Combine on March 29 in Atlanta, Georgia.
  • Approved transfer of Cindy Zabell from W.A.V.E. to Roulhac Middle School.
  • Approved retirement of Shirley Thompson, Student Affairs Manager at FPTC.
  • Approved employment of Edgardo Perez at FPTC.
  • Approved employment of Kenneth Pittman at FPTC.
  • Approved resignation of Melisa Reddick, paraprofessional, from Kate Smith Elementary School.
  • Approved employment of Melisa Reddick, teacher, at Kate Smith Elementary School.
  • Approved employment of Jessika Dizoglio, teacher, at Vernon Elementary School.
  • Approved employment of Jarrett Segers, teacher, at Vernon Elementary School.
  • Approved Latina English as an after school tutor at Vernon Elementary School.
  • Approved employment of Barry Gardner, teacher, at Vernon Middle School.
