The City of Vernon, Florida replaced two retiring City Council members and the City Mayor without a General Election, as applicants for the positions were not challenged, and three other City Council members retained their seats without opposition, as all six were sworn into office at the regular monthly Vernon City Council meeting on Monday, March 18, 2019.

Qualifying ended on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at 4PM for all six positions, each two years in duration.

Vernon residents Jeanie Shipes and Becky Baxley filled positions vacated by retiring Council members while Laura Olene Brewer was elected Mayor without opposition, replacing the retiring Tina Sloan. Gary Owens, Joey Brock and Gwen March all retained their existing seats at the Council table, with Owens elected President of the Council following the swearing ceremony.

The new Council solidified plans for the 2019 July 4 Celebration at the meeting, and discussed the success of the Recreation Program with Bent Gibson, including the need for additional assistance at practices and ball games for concession help and other duties.
