TALLAHASSEE, FL, March 23, 2019 –

The WTREX participants had a successful burn day at the Dixie Plantation. The local land managers were happy to host our crews and offered them exceptional learning and burning opportunities. The WTREX crews burned multiple units, taking advantage of the chance to practice different ignition techniques, focus on specific management objectives for fire effects, and continue to build crew cohesion and efficacy.

WTREX participants are looking forward to another productive burn day tomorrow on two units near the Tall Timbers campus. They will be using prescribed fire as part of the regular land management plan – regular fire on these units helps maintain ideal habitat for several wildlife species.

As a result of this operation, smoke may impact parts of Leon County.

Motorists are cautioned to drive slowly with lights on if they encounter smoke from these prescribed burns. Morning fog can mix with smoke and decrease visibility further.
