Kiwanis Club supports STEM program & learn about the upcoming Relay for Life …….

Susan Sanders, representing the Washington School District, was presented a $1,000 check at Tuesday’s meeting of the Chipley Kiwanis Club by Dale Corbin. The check was given by the club to help fund the District’s STEM program.

Jody Bush (shown at right) and Kathy Foster, were guest speakers at Tuesday’s Kiwanis Club meeting to update members on the upcoming events leading up to the April 12th Washington/Holmes Relay for Life being held at Pals Park in Chipley

This year’s Relay for Life activities include the following:

  • April 1st – 11th – Paint The Counties PURPLE – businesses are asked to decorate the exterior and interiors of their offices/stores in Purple to draw attention to this year’s theme ‘Crossing CANCER Off The Calendar’. The stores will be judged on the following: Appearance, Creative use of Purple, Window decorations, and Door fronts. They will also be receiving donations for the American Cancer Society.
  • April 2nd – Scavenger Hunt – Clues will be posted on the Relay Facebook page (Relay For Life os Washington/Holmes) and the event website (www.relayforlife.org/washingtonholmesfl) deach day at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. The first person to find the hidden butterfly in the community receives a fabulous weekend getaway package in Panama City Beach.   • April 8th – Survivor’s Dinner at Shiloh Baptist Church at 6 p.m.
  • April 6th – ‘Empty Shoes’ Initiative at the Holmes County Courthouse from 10 to 10:30 a.m. and the Washington County Courthouse from 11:30 a.m. until noon. Take a pair of shoes (slippers, boots, tennis shoes, etc.) to represent someone you know who has lost their battle to cancer. This powerful statement will show the community why the fight against cancer is so important. Each pair of shoes represents a loved one lost.
  • April 12th – ‘Relay For Life of Washington Holmes’ at Pals Park (1544 Railroad Avenue) in Chipley from 6 p.m. until Midnight. This event will kick off with a Gospel Hour from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. with special guests The Watson Family. Throughout the evening attendees can also enjoy live music from Cedar Creek, The Drummond Family, and Sake of One. The Relay is a family-friendly event and will have activities for kids throughout the event, including a Dance Party. There is no fee to attend or to register a team.
