Next Week is National Library Week and county residents are reminded to visit their local library.
Washington County Library Director Renae Rountree was guest speaker at Thursday’s meeting of the local Friends of the Library and took a few minutes to update members on the Launchpad program recently introduced in the local library system.
The Playaway Launchpads are now available for checkout and come pre-loaded with content for kids.
The units are designed with a simple, easy-to-use interface and are 100 percent secure. The Launchpad tablets are full of learning games tailored to help children ages 3-5 build eaarly literacy skills to ensure school readiness.
Rountree said the recently obtained units are great for rural areas where children are not always exposed to everything children in urban settings might have acess to.
Commenting that approximately 68 percent of the pople in rural areas of Florida don’t have good internet reception, Rountree noted, “We don’t have all the technology in rural areas that is available in urban areas and we’re trying to level the playing field.”
Those attending Thursday’s meeting were reminded that April 22nd is Earth Day and that a recycling bin for plastics, paper, and cardboard is located behine the library in Chipley.
