The Chipley City Council led off their meeting Tuesday night recognizing Chipley Basketball League Champions in both the 9-10 Year Old and the 6-8 Year Old Divisions.
The 6-8 year old Basketball League champs, The Ambassadors, had a record of 9 wins and 1 loss and were champions in their league. The team was coached by Marcellus Garner and assistant coach Garfrey White. The players consisted of Garfrey White, Micah Garner, Jason Strickland, William Larson, Hadley suggs, Ashdon Tranquille, Ashlyn Cummings, and Emmanuel Leverette.
The 9-10 year old Basketball League champs, Tom’s Auto, had a record of 10 wins and one loss and were champions in their league. The team was coached by Henry Forward and assistant coach Alan Davis. The players consisted of Press Forward, Stephan Hagan, Judson Reed, Joshua Lamb, Khamari Massaline, Cameron Rushmeir, Mikala Pofhler, Trinity Sutherby, and Broxton Davis.
Councilmembers also took the opportunity at Tuesday’s meeting to proclaim April Child Abuse Prevention Month and reminded members of the audience that the abuse and neglect of children can cause severe and costly consequences for children, families, and society as a whole. And, that every child has a right to a safe, healthy, and happy childhood where they are educationally and developmentally on track.
The City of Chipley is recognizing April as Child Abuse Prevention Month with displays of pinwheels around City Hall.
Councilmembers also approved the following agenda items at their April 9th meeting:
- Ordinance No. 957 – An amendment to Chapter 11 dealing with noise control on private property.
- Water Utilities Department Loan – For purchase of a 2019 Tractor and Bush Hog for the Water Utilities Department at a total cost of $71,755.15
- FDOT SCOP project on West Boulevard to CEI Services to David H. Melvin, Inc.
- FDOT SCOP project West Boulevard Design Services Award to Genesis Halff, Inc.
- Bid for Chipley Sidewalk Repairs to S.H. Hayes Enterprises, LLC for $38,700.
- Federal Emergency Management Agency Public Assistance Funding Agreement.
In other action at the meeting the Council members heard from Bill Perry, representing Mott MacDonald, who presented an engineering update concerning the sprayfield site. He said things were proceeding and the environmental report is completed. Perry said he expected to have the groundbreaking in the December 2019-January 2020 time frame and expected a two year build out on the project after that.
Council members tabled discussion of the sale of the Mongoven Building. City Administrator Dan Miner said he would look at possible dates for a special meeting and notify the council members.
