As part of the April 10th meeting of the Chipley Woman’s Club it was announced that the club had received a certificate of recognition presented at the recent General Federation of Women’s Club convention.
The accompanying letter from the Federation’s International President Mary Ellen Brock, read in part, “On behalf of the membership of the General Federation of Women’s Club, I extend our best wishes and congratulation to the Woman’s Club of Chipley upon the celebration of 90 years of service.”
Club members made it clear they would like to see the club’s work continue into the years ahead. Anyone interested in joining the Chipley Woman’s Club is invited to attend the May meeting on May 8th at the clubhouse at Noon on 5th Street in Chipley.
Club members received more good news when Janice George, with One Florida Bank, presented the Womans Club, represented by Laura Joiner, a check to help with the parking lot paving project going on at the clubhouse property.
Newly elected club officiers for 2019-2020 include – Rena Rountree, President; Kathy Kersey, Vice President; Liz Corbin, Secretary; and Laura Joiner, Treasurer.
Linda Mincey, president of the Washington County Teachers Union, was guest speaker for the April club meeting and updated club members regarding legislative action being taken in Tallhassee that will impact the state’s educational system.
Mincey also invited club members and others to 7:30 a.m. ‘Walk In’ being hosted April 17th at the public schools in Washington County. Mincey said the project is being held to draw attention to the importance of education in today’s society.
