Wausau Council hires Steve Hallmark as Rec Director ………….

Before closing the April 11th Wausau Town Council meeting Councilwoman Carol West announced there will be an Easter Egg Hunt at the Possum Palace at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 13th.

Steve Hallmark started serving his community as a volunteer Rec Director a few weeks ago to get the 2019 ball season up and running, but the Wausau Town Council voted 5-0 at their meeting Thursday night to sign him on as Recreation Director on a permanent basis. As the vote showed, Council members were enthusiastic about bringing Hallmark on board.

Councilmembers weren’t as pleased to tackle the town’s problem with getting USPS deliveries made to home addresses. Councilmembers said if individuals or businesses have packages sent to Wausau Post Office Boxes, there is no delivery problem; however, if packages are sent directly to a rural route address they have to be sent by way of the Chipley Post Office/Zip Code and and there have been some problems. Wausau’s attorney Jeff Carter was asked to look into the problem.

In other action at Thursday’s meeting councilmembers took the following actions:

  • Approved payment of Town bills.
  • Apporved of Fire Department minutes and training records.
  • Approved minutes of the Feb. 21st workshop; March 14th regular meeting; March 28th recessed meeting; and April 4th workshop.
  • Approved bank statements.
  • Set a June 27, 2019 workshop at 5 p.m.
  • Discussed the DOT offer for land and then turned the issue over to their attorney for negotiation.
  • Were informed that Attorney Jeff Carter had not yet been able to talk with Washington County Administrator Jeff Massey about the code enforcement problem impacting the town.
  • Were informed that they working with Washington County on animal control and it was costing the Town $65 for each animal taken in.
  • Voted to advertise a maintenance position.
  • Voted to hire a Mr. Slater under the Displaced Workers Grant Program to help with hurricane debris cleanup.
  • Set their next meeting for May 9th at 6 p.m.
