Wausau Garden Club learns about roses for the Lower South ……………

Club officers named for 2019-2020 business year.

Holding office in the Wausau Garden Club for the 2019-2020 business year will be (l-r) Cindy Simonson, President; Inga Ross, Vice President; Ruth Windholtz, Secretary; and Merle Jones, Treasurer.

Washington County Extension Agent Matt Orwat was the guest speaker at Wednesday’s meeting of the Wausau Garden Club and offered the gardeners tips on growing roses in the Lower South.

Along with giving the gardeners tips on selecting the perfect roses for their gardens, Orwat also gave tips on planting, trimming and what plant foods would most benefit the roses they plant.

Orwat listed the following as outstanding roses for the Lower South:

  • Mamon Cochet
  • Climbing White Mamon
  • Fortune’s Double Yellow
  • Bella Portugaise
  • Lady Hillingdon
  • Perle d/Or
  • Duchesse de Brabant
  • K.A. Victoria
  • Louis Philippe
  • Frau Kark Drushki

Along with several ongoing projects in their community, the Wausau Garden Club also tends a community garden behind Town Hall.
