In what many consider the single best event of its kind, the Washington County, Florida ‘Senior Expo’, hosted by the Council on Aging, is expected to be well-attended on Tuesday, April 23, 2019, as seen in these photos from the 2018 event, by Real Florida Media, a subsidiary of The Goulding Agency in Chipley, Florida.

From 10AM until 1PM, local seniors are treated to haircuts, manicures, health screenings, lunch, and lots of giveaways, at the Washington County Ag Center on Highway 90 in Chipley, Florida.

The event, embraced by the health programs at nearby Florida Panhandle Technical College, which utilizes the event to give free haircuts to the seniors, courtesy of the FPTC Cosmetology Program, and to screen the seniors for health issues, utilizing students from the Practical Nursing and Patient Care Technology Programs, has been around for a decade.

‘We learn something each year, and try to provide services to this welcoming audience’, said Shanda Bruner, Instructor of the FPTC Cosmetology Program.

‘We really want to pamper these folks when they come to this event, so from hair to nails, we get to treat them, as well as get some practical experience for our students, and we appreciate the opportunity’, finishes Bruner.

Washington County Commissioner Todd Abbott and Tracy Andrews, City of Chipley Mayor, both expressed approval of the event, attendees and impact on the community at last year’s celebration.

‘We need more of these kinds of opportunities to pamper our seniors’, said Tracy Andrews, between discussions about current events with attendees.

Todd Abbott made use of the time meeting and greeting the guests of honor, ‘Evening events sometimes are a challenge for these folks to attend, and a daytime event such as this allows these seniors to get out to enjoy the services available here’.
