Washington County Commissioners Tray Hawkins, Steve Joyner, Todd Addott and Charles Kent were presented by plaque at their April 25th meeting by Ken Moneghan (r) recognizing the County’s 30th Anniversary with FACT. Moneghan thanked the board for working with FACT for the County’s insurance needs.
The board members also had the opportunity to meet T.J. Boutwell, the County’s new Animal Control Officer. In her new position for only short period of time, commissioners said she was already getting good reviews and doing her job very well.
Commissioners also took the following actions at Thursday’s meeting:
- Approved a Special Exception to allow a Residential use on property designated General Commercial at 5725 Highway 77,
- Approved a Future Land Use Amendment, from Agriculture/Silviaculture to Low Density Residential, for 5.0 acres of land at 1403 Wells Road.
- Approved a Request to Vacate segments of Hernandez Lane and 1st Street in Greenhead.
- After reviewing five quotes for repairing the roof at the Sam Micthell Public Library in Vernon, commissioners approved having Washington County Library Director Renae Rountree negotiate with Mike Moody and AP Construction LLC for their best price.
- Approved a LAP Usery Road Sidewalk Supplemental Agreement.
- Approved awarding Construction of Usery Road Sidewalk Project to GAC Contractors.
- Approved awarding a contract to Melvin Engineering Inc. to perform water and sewer study through the Community Planning Technical Assistance DEO Grant. The action also included reducing the scope of work involved in the project.
- Giving commissioners an update on the Foxworth Road Update, Grants Coordinator Karen Shaw said her office is not getting a good response at the public meetings being hosted, nor from the surveys sent out to property owners along the road, and suggested another meeting be set.
- Clint Erickson, E911 Coordinator, was directed by commissions to submit for a grant to purchase furniture for the County Dispatch Office.
- Approved giving 7 – 8 loads of dirt to refurbish the Vernon Elementary School playgound.
- Approved selling four pieces of property in Sunny Hills for their assessed value of $1,800.
- Negotiated with one potential land buyer who bid $3,300 for property assessed at $5,000. The interested buyer agreed to pay the assessed value.
- Turned down one offer for property when the interested buyer only bid $800 for property assessed at $1,800. Commissioners said they would be willing to sell the property at the assessed value.
