Chipola Softball finishes second in State; Headed to Nationals …………..

LONGWOOD, FL—The Chipola College Lady Indians defeated Florida Southwestern 2-1 in the Florida FCSAA State Softball Tournament to secure a bid to the national tournament (May 22-25 in St. George, Utah). A game recap is available at: http://bit.ly/2Jh090.

Chipola beat Florida Southwestern 2-1 in the runner-up game on May 6. The game began May 5, but was postponed due to lightning. Lauren Finch homered to give Chipola the win in the 9th inning. Mikayla Lewin was 2 for 4 at the plate with one run scored. Amy Woodham earned the win on the mound for Chipola in 9 innings of work. She had 5 strikeouts and faced 32 batters.

Seven Chipola players were named to the FCSAA All-Tournament team: Hayley Sandridge, Ally Clegg, Eila Infante, Mikayla Lewin, Candela Figueroa, Amy Woodham and Lauren Finch.

Chipola beat Indian River 12-1 in 5 innings on May 5. Brianna Bailey was the winning pitcher for the Indians. Figueroa and Clegg each had two hits in the game. Lewin had a 3-run homerun in the third. Sydney McLain and Figueroa both had two stolen bases in the game. Infante, Lauren Finch and Taylor Scala also stole one base each.

Chipola trounced Seminole 12-2 on May 4. Amy Woodham earned the win in 5 innings of work. Brianna Bailey pitched one inning. Figueroa was 4 for 5 with a homerun in the first, 2 RBI, 3 runs scored and a stolen base. Infante was 2 for 4 with 3 RBI. Clegg was 3 for 4 with a homerun and 2 RBI.

Chipola lost to Central Florida, 6-5, on May 3, to move to the consolation bracket. Woodham gave up 4 hits in 4 innings. Bailey gave up no runs in 3 innings. Figueroa and Haley Sandridge had 2 hits each. Figueroa homered in the fifth.

The Indians started off the tournament with an 8-0, six-inning win over State College of Florida (Manatee) on May 2. Woodham earned the win with 3 strikeouts in four innings. Bailey pitched two innings. Sandridge and Infante had two hits each. Figueroa homered in the first. Six Indians recorded stolen bases: Infante (2), Scala (2), Figueroa, Sandridge, Lewin and Madison Kent.

Chipola finished the season with a 47-5-1 overall record with an 18-1 conference mark.
