Released by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office …
On Thursday, May 23, 2019, at approximately 10:30 p.m., the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a house fire located at the 1400 block of Tennessee Street, Alford, Florida.
Jackson County Fire and Rescue, and the Alford Volunteer Fire Department, worked to contain the fire until the early morning hours of May 24th. After the fire had been put out, the Fire Marshal with Division of Investigative & Forensic Services, entered the house to determine the cause of the fire.
A search of the home and contents revealed at least one family member had perished as a result of smoke inhalation. The other two residents were not home at the time of the fire. The deceased was identified as Laurie Ann Barrett. Mrs. Barrett’s next of kin was notified and advised of her passing. According to the State Fire Marshal’s Office Investigator, the fire initiated in the attic of the home and there was no signs of foul play.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating the fire.
