School Board considering expansion plans for FPTC …………….

During a workshop session Monday evening, the Washington County School Board met with School Superintendent Joe Taylor and staff members of the Florida Panhandle Technical College to discuss expanding the classes offered at the Technical College located in Chipley.

Looking at redefining the overall program offered at the college, FPTC head Martha Compton said the move has “been a long time coming” and stressed that the discussion was really just beginning.

Compton said she talked with local businesses to determine what classes might be needed before coming to the School Board and added that it would take 12 to 15 students in each program to make the overall program self sustaining, but added, “If we get them trained, there are jobs.”

Joe Taylor described  FPTC as being in competition with Chipola College in Marianna and said now it is up to the Washington County School Board to determine where the Technical College goes.  After reviewing just some of the information presented to the school board members on Monday night, Taylor asked the board members to review the information and  they would hold a Special Meeting to look at their options later in June.

Compton released the following information regarding the 2019-2020 Expansion Plan:
