Panama City, Fla. – Commissioner Nicole “Nikki” Fried and Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services officials will visit Bay County today to highlight the community’s aquaculture industry and raise awareness of local food insecurity.
Commissioner Fried will tour a seafood processing facility at Webb’s Seafood Inc. in Youngstown at 1:00 PM, followed by a visit to a Summer BreakSpot children’s meal event in Panama City at 4:30 PM. Commissioner Fried will be joined at these events by state and local elected officials.
Aquaculture/Seafood Facility Tour

Founded in 1985 by Robert and Janet Webb, Webb’s Seafood Inc. is a large operation with two facilities, in Eastpoint and Youngstown, and is one of three facilities that are certified and approved for post-harvest processing. Webb’s Seafood Inc. sells oyster shellstock, processes oysters into shucked gallons and pints, and can utilize two different post-harvest processes to reduce Vibrio in oysters to non-detectable levels and ensure the safety of oysters sold to consumers.
Summer BreakSpot Children’s Meal Event

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) administers the Summer Food Service Program, also known as the Summer BreakSpot, to provide free meals to children under 18 years old while school is out. Feeding the Gulf Coast is a sponsor of the Summer BreakSpot program and has partnered with Mercy Chefs to provide meals this summer. This event is a partnership between Feeding the Gulf Coast, Mercy Chefs, and FDACS to bring awareness to the program and increase daily participation in Bay County.
