Hurricane Michael cleanup still top priority for BOCC ……………………

The Washington County Board of County Commissioners still has Hurricane Michael cleanup as a top priority months after the Category 5 storm came inland across the Panhandle.

Meeting in a workshop session Wednesday morning, commissioners said just cleaning up the road drainage areas throughout the county is going to be a lengthy process and needs to be done ahead of future storms.

Commissioners indicated the county is working hard on long range planning to get ahead of future storm problems.

Commissioners also discussed the following issues:

  •  Ag Center Lease with the State – The issue was turned to to the county attorney for review and his advice.
  •  Recommendation to appoint Kyle Newson as a representative on the Washington County Planning Commission (School District Member).  Placed on the Consent  Agenda for the BOCC’s July 25th meeting.
  •  Recommendation to appoint Mark Odom as a representative on the Washington County Planning Commission (District 4).  Placed on the Consent  Agenda for the BOCC’s July 25th meeting.
  •  Recommendation to reappoint Darrin Wall to the CareerSource Chipola Board.    Placed on the Consent  Agenda for the BOCC’s July 25th meeting.

Other items placed on the July 25th meeting agenda included:

  • Human Trafficking Hotline Awareness Signage
  •  Adopt-A-Road program
  •  Establishing the 2020 Census Committee
  •  Adoption of the State’s  travel reimbusement plan
  • Lowering the County’s millage rate
