CHATTAHOOCHEE, Fla. —Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis hosted a Be Scam Smart Workshop today at the Gadsden County Senior Services in Chattahoochee to educate seniors on how to avoid fraud and scams.
CFO Jimmy Patronis said, “Every day we hear of new scams and fraud tactics targeting Floridians, especially our seniors. Anyone can fall victim to fraud and identity theft, but seniors are often inundated with investment offers, promises of instant wealth and requests for charitable contributions. The Florida Department of Financial Services launched Operation S.A.F.E. (Stop Adult Financial Exploitation) as part the On Guard for Seniors initiative. Be Scam Smart workshops are open to seniors, their family and caregivers to help inform, empower, and protect Florida’s seniors from financial scams and fraud.
