Released by the Chipley Police Department ..
On August 5, 2019, the Chipley Police Department responded to Walmart in reference to a complaint of threats from a disgruntled customer.
Witnesses indicated that the suspect, who was later identified as Charles David Thomas, 33 of Chipley, came into the store to return item. After his return was denied Thomas became upset and made statements indicating that he was going to shoot some things in the parking lot of Wal-Mart. Thomas then demanded to speak with management and after again being denied on his return, an employee overheard him state that they were going to have even bigger problems.
Shortly after his departure from the store Thomas was located during a traffic stop and found to be wearing a shoulder type holster, although no firearms were located.
Thomas was placed under arrest and transported to the Washington County Jail where he was booked into the jail for one count of Florida Statute 790.163, False Report concerning planting a bomb, an explosive, or weapon of mass destruction, or concerning the use of firearm in a violent manner.
Chief Thompson stated, “We take threats of this nature very seriously in order to protect the lives of our citizens and will treat all such incidents as the same. Your safety is our top priority.”
