Looking ahead at security needs regarding the 2020 elections, Washington County’s Board of County Commissioners talked with a representative from Inspired Technology regarding cost of current security program for the Washington County Elections Office at this week’s Budget Workshop.  Those upgrade costs were currently placed at around $66,000 a year, but commissioners indicated they expected  the price is expected to go lower.

Commissioners indicated they wanted to see security issues in next year’s elections met head on so Washington County voters could feel secure when they go to the polls.

Commissioners also discussed need for an additional person in the county’s Building Department and said they want to look at a rate study they feel is needed for the department.  They said such a study has not been done in over nine years and pointed out that the Building Department’s rates are the lowest in the area.

Commissioners went on to discuss funding for the county’s recycling program and said the program is just not working and probably needs to be revamped, but were not  immediately ready to start that procedure.

Additionally commissioners discussed the proposed budgets for the Library System, MSBU, Planning Department,  Sheriff’s Department and Jail, the Tax Collector’s Office, Tourist Development Council, Transportation Department, and Veteran’s Affairs Office.
