Chipley resident James Hayes, 72, died Aug. 28th of injuries sustained in a 2:35 p.m. crash on SR 77 in Jackson County.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Hayes was traveling northbound on State Road 77 and began to pass slower traffic. While passing the 2011 Sonata Hyundai he was driving drifted onto the west shoulder of the roadway and collided with a culvert which caused the vehicle to go airborne, land, and overturn. The vehicle came to final rest on its left side, facing southward, on the west shoulder. The driver was announced deceased at the scene.
