The Chipley City Council met in a workshop session Thursday afternoon and members were introduced to the City’s new Code Enforcement Officer, Calvin Sherrouse.
Councilmembers also discussed the following agenda items for their Sept. 10th Council meeting:
- Resolution No. 19-35 – Amendment to the City’s Personnel Policey – (Overtime in a disaster situation).
- Resolution No. 19-36 – Fiscal Year 2018-19 Budget Amendment (Mainly in the Sanitation and Sewer budgets)
- Report from David H. Melvin, Inc. ( Placed on agenda with no discussion.)
- Approval of a Mutual Aid Agreement with American Public Gas Association.
- Approval of FDEP State Revolving Fund Loan for Chipley Treatment Project.
- Approval of a Special Event Application for the Merchants of Historic Chipley ‘Trunk or Treat’ to be held Oct. 26th from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
- Approval of a Special Event Application for the Chipley High School Homecoming Parade to be held Nov. 1st at 12:45 p.m.
- Approval of a Special Event Application for the Chipley Christmas Fest and Parade to be held Dec. 6th from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Council members also received reports from the following departments:
- Police Department – Chief Scott Thompson reported that August had been “very busy”.
- Fire Department – Chief Floyd Aycock reported things had slowed down in August and that the County had approved the purchase of an aerial truck for the department. He said the new unit will be county-owned and city-based. Chipley Mayor Tracy Andrews described the move as a “great partnership” and praised the department’s invovlement in their community.
- Recreation Department – Guy Lane announced there is a need for coaches for the soccer program. He noted that a lot of young people have signed up.
- Public Works – It was announced that Oct. 14 – Nov. 8 will be a clean-up time in the City.
- Water Utilities – reported no violations for August, smoke testing is continuing, and department personnel are checking all of the City’s generators.
- City Administrator Dan Miner reported the City has received a $300,000 reimbursement from FEMA.
