Released by CFO Jimmy Patronis’ Office …
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and State Fire Marshal Jimmy Patronis sponsored two resolutions during today’s Florida Cabinet meeting including recognition of Resiliency Week and Fire Prevention Week.
CFO Jimmy Patronis said, “I was honored to sponsor two resolutions today to highlight the importance of disaster preparedness as well as fire prevention in our state. September 22-28 will be recognized as Resiliency Week in Florida. Resilient communities are vital to disaster preparedness efforts because they work to implement policies and develop long-range mitigation strategies to protect people and property from future disasters. Following Hurricane Michael, I saw first-hand how these efforts help allow Florida residents and business owners to bounce back from natural disasters including hurricanes.
“Fire Prevention Week is celebrated October 6-12 to help prevent fire related tragedies in our state by encouraging all Floridan’s to be aware of their surroundings and practice fire safety. Home fires resulted in more than 2,600 deaths in the U.S. in 2017, and many fires can be prevented by using proper fire safety measures including working smoke alarms and a fire escape plan.”
