NF/SGVHS— September is Suicide Prevention month, this is a time to recognize the importance of helping to prevent suicide and the role we all take in helping save the lives of our Veterans.
North Florida/ South Georgia Veterans Health System (NF/SGVHS) has announced the roll out of an innovation project to add Veterans Crisis Line information to their government car fleet. “It is our hope that adding this essential information to our cars will assist in getting the crisis number out and ensuring that Veterans are linked to the services they may need,” said Katherine Eicher, NF/SGVHS Suicide Prevention Program Supervisor.
NF/SGVHS has projected that the Veterans Crisis Line will be displayed on approximately 200 of the organization’s vehicles. “We started this endeavor by targeting our fleet that provides direct outreach for mental health resources, but we plan to continue by having this life- saving information on cars assigned to several different departments in several different locations,” said Acting Associate Chief of Staff for Mental Health, Dr. George Shorter.
The Veterans Crisis Line is an easy and free way for Veterans in crisis or for those concerned about a Veteran to connect with caring, qualified responders with the Department of Veterans Affairs. NF/SGVHS Director Thomas Wisnieski added “This effort directly conveys our commitment to promoting the public health approach to preventing suicide and a way to highlight resources for Veterans.”
The Veterans Crisis number is 1-800-273-8255 press 1. For more information, please contact Katherine Eicher, 904-517-2085
