Panama City, FL – The Gulf Coast State College Enactus Team recently placed third, out of 36 teams, in the international Ford Mobility Innovation Challenge. They were tasked with designing a project that focused on affordable, clean transportation and mobility issues to solve social problems or urgent community issues at the Enactus World Cup at Ford Greenfield Labs in Palo Alto, CA. The team also received a prize of $10,000 to be used as an investment for the project.
The GCSC Enactus Team’s project, ALT10, is an innovative initiative that leverages RSAE Labs’ Radio Frequency Identification technology to create a safe driving environment for EMS responders. In addition, it also includes a Department of Defense level encryption protection code to prevent cyber-attacks and spoofing of the alert service. The innovation will allow the transportation industry to continue research and expand artificial intelligence technology into all types of vehicles to ensure safety measures are considered in the development of future designs for EMS and commercial vehicles.
The ability to provide students with the opportunities to participate in these types of projects and competitions is a great way for them to gain real-world experience, and promotes the importance of collaboration among group members. “We are more than a team,” said Deborah Smoots, GCSC Enactus Team. “We are a family working together to empower the global community.”
“It is amazing what a group of young people and dedicated partners can accomplish in a small amount of time,” said Emmanuel Hernandez, GCSC Enactus Team advisor. “This project shows another example of the quality of education we provide at GCSC, as well as the quality and creativity of our students.”
