WASHINGTON, D.C.–Former Chipola College baseball stars Patrick Corbin and Russell Martin will face off in Major League Baseball’s National League Division Series beginning Thursday, Oct. 3.
Corbin, a left-handed pitcher, will get the start in game one for the Nationals as they face catcher Russell Martin and Los Angeles Dodgers. Corbin, who played at Chipola in 2009, signed a six-year, $140 million deal with the Nationals in the off-season. He was drafted by the Angels and debuted in the MLB for the Diamondbacks in 2012. He was an All-Star selection in 2018 and 2013 and pitched for the National League in the MLB All-Star game.
Russell Martin was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers in January, 2019. The Dodgers originally selected him in the 17th round of the 2002 draft. His former team, the Blue Jays are covering over 80 percent of the $20 million owed to Martin. Martin has had an outstanding career with 57 post-season games with the Blue Jays, Pirates, Yankees and Dodgers. He’s a four-time All-Star and Silver Slugger.
