Panama City, FL – For a large number of GCSC students, the unexpected expenses associated with Hurricane Michael has put their continued education at risk. Following the storm, the Gulf Coast State College Foundation created the “Hurricane Michael Student & Employee Relief Fund” in an effort to provide necessary assistance to students, faculty and staff. To date, over 1,500 students and nearly 400 employees have benefited from the campaign.
To assist in supporting these efforts, The St. Joe Community Foundation has generously donated $50,000 to the campaign to establish a textbook assistance fund. This will be used to help any students who need assistance with either replacing damaged books or purchasing new ones.
“Education is an important focus of The St. Joe Community Foundation,” said April Wilkes, Executive Director of the St. Joe Community Foundation. “We are pleased to provide grants to assist with purchasing text books for students at Gulf Coast State College who have been affected by Hurricane Michael, helping them return to classes and continue to pursue their educational goals.”
“We are most grateful to The St. Joe Community Foundation for their gracious support of our students by establishing this book fund,” said Margie Mazur, GCSC Foundation Executive Director. “Additionally, we are thankful for the continued support of the community in our Hurricane Michael fundraising efforts.”
A check presentation will be held on Thursday, October 10 at 10:00 a.m. in the E.A. Gardner Conference Room.
