Following the presentation to Compton, WCEA president Linda Mincey took a few minutes to invite school officials and the public to be on hand Tuesday, Oct. 22nd when the Florida Education Association’s Fund Our Future Bus will be stopping in Washington County for events taking place at several Chipley schools at 7:15 a.m. She said teachers, students, parents, and staff from Roulhac Middle School, the Washington Academy of Varying Exceptionalities, and Chipley High School, will be gathered at the Roulhac Middle School flagpole to greet the FEA officials.
Mincey said Florida Education Association President Frederick Ingram, Vice-President Andrew Spar, and Secretary-Treasurer Carole Gauronaskas will be visiting classrooms, reading to students, and oberserving classrooms to witness first hand the top-notch educational opportunities educators provide our County’s children every day.
The visit is part part of a five-week bus tour across 67 counties to raise awareness of the need for the Legislature to invest in public education. Along the way the FEA officials will be listening to the voices of students, parents, progessional educators, and community members.
Following the presentations the Washington County School Board approved all items on their agenda, including the following:
- Monthly bills, financial reports, and budget amendments
- Minutes of Sept. 9th Board meeting, Sept. 9th Final Budgt Hearing, and Sept. 9th Executive Session
- List of substitutes/volunteers
- Purchase order for Griffin Heavy Equipment
- Purchase order for flooring for new board room
- Out-of-state travel for students to attend the National Peanut Festival Special Citizens Day in Dothan on Nov. 6th
- Out-of-state travel for VMS AR Reward students to Fun Zone in Dothan on Dec. 19th
- 2019-2020 Bus Routes
- Contract services with Samantha Calzada for Volleyball program at VHS
- A/C unit replacement at RMS & CHS cafeteria
- Changes to Student Progression Plan
Before closing the meeting, Superintendent Joe Taylor and the Board set a 3 p.m. session on Nov. 4th to discuss on School Grades, Safety and Security, and an Executive Session on negotiations.
