Hispanic Heritage Month takes place September 15 to October 15 every year as a time to recognize and celebrate the many contributions, diverse cultures, and extensive histories of the American Latino community.
On Monday, October 14, 2019, Florida’s First Lady Casey DeSantis announced the Hispanic Heritage Month student contest winners and Excellence in Education Award recipients.
This year’s theme was ‘Celebrating Public Service’ and the winners were honored during the Hispanic Heritage Month awards ceremony at the Florida Governor’s Mansion.
Chipley, Florida’s own Jorge Bauzo was singled out as recipient of the Excellence in Education Award by First Lady Casey DeSantis and Governor Ron DeSantis.
Bauzo, teacher at Chipley, Florida High School in Washington County, has been awarded ‘Teacher of the Year’ 3 times out of the past 5 years and has exhibited the willingness to go above and beyond that which is expected in order to ensure that our school children have opportunities in education.
Jorge teaches Spanish I and II but also helps students with industry certifications, SAT/ACT preparation, graduation requirements, extracurricular activity transportation, all while pursuing his doctorate in Education.
