Florida Panhandle Technical College Director Martha Compton recently sent a package of letters to all teachers in all schools in Washington County, Florida, for dissemination to parents and guardians of all school children, as shown below.
Dear Washington County Parents and Guardians:
Through a generous donation from Wells Fargo and in partnership with the Consortium of Florida Education Foundation (CFEF), it is a pleasure to announce a Florida Panhandle Technical College Foundation project called “Recovery Tree”.
This past year started much like any other year with new ideas and excited students, but in October, the winds changed with the arrival of hurricane Michael. It came in like a wrecking ball! Hurricane Michael was the first Category 5 hurricane to strike the Florida Panhandle, and in terms of wind speed was the fourth-strongest land falling hurricane in the United States. In just over four hours’ time, on an October day, the winds had changed here in Washington County and in the Panhandle of Florida.
Utilizing the Wells Fargo donation, the FPTC Foundation would like to help Washington County students to continue to recover from the storm. If there are things such as clothing, food, school supplies, books or other small items that your children or teens need and you have been unable to replace, please allow the Foundation the opportunity to help.
The FPTC Foundation is sending a “Recovery Tree” home and all that you need to do is to fill out the questions located on the back of the tree. Then simply let your child or teen return the tree to a teacher or member of their school’s staff. You are also welcome to drop it off at the Florida Panhandle Technical College.
The Foundation team will provide as much as possible to help you and your family with your needs. If you have any questions regarding this project, please do not hesitate to contact me at the email or number below. On behalf of the Foundation, we thank you for the opportunity to serve such a strong community.
Sincerely, Martha Compton, FPTC Director/Foundation Liaison
Thank you Martha, Florida Panhandle Technical College, Wells Fargo Bank and the Consortium of Florida Education Foundation.
