You bought or were given a DSLR camera and after frustration, simply reverted to the use of your cell photo camera. Sound familiar?
‘It’s not unusual for our students to profess that they have had their DSLR camera sitting on a shelf or in the closet for quite some time’, says Florida Panhandle Technical College Photography Instructor Paul Goulding. ‘Our effort is to give them knowledge, which breeds confidence, so that they can use their camera to achieve high-quality images’.
Recent “Photography 101” classes at Florida Panhandle Technical College in Chipley, Florida enjoyed enthusiastic response and with the advent of cooler weather, the courses are once again being offered on Wednesday evenings starting in December.
The series of classes is designed to simplify photography and offer instruction to Beginner and Intermediate photographers who want to take control of their DSLR cameras, as well as Drone camera operators.
Over 50 local photographers from several neighboring counties attended the entry-level classes over the past year, which included realistic expectations of what a camera is capable, with attendees becoming familiar with their own equipment, and new photographers getting information necessary to make their first camera purchase based on budget and need.
Designed to allow the public to participate outside of normal class hours, on evenings and weekends, the series of instructional sessions is taught by professionals, and the Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3 sessions which make up ‘Photography 101’ last 3 hours each, at a cost of $25 each.
‘This is our entry-level photography class’, said Martha Compton, Director of Florida Panhandle Technical College ‘and is a great starting point for anyone ready to buy their first DSLR camera, for Beginners who want to step up their game and start shooting in Manual Mode, or for Intermediate Photographers to obtain a refresher course in these basic concepts, presented in a fresh, entertaining format’.
The next class is Part 1 of “Photography 101”, and is scheduled for Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at 5PM on the campus of Florida Panhandle Technical College in downtown Chipley.
Successive classes offer an overview of the basics of lens choices, low-light photography, processing your images in the Adobe suite of programs, including Photoshop and Lightroom, and practical experience in the campus studio, with further specialized sessions focusing on high-speed and sports photography, aerial images, studio and street photography, retouching, color correction and video editing.
Upcoming advanced specialized classes include focus on Wedding and special event photography, Portrait photos, Landscape and Panorama photos, Drone photo and video production, Sports photography, Color-correcting, Retouching and Video Editing and a special session titled “The Business End of Photography”, addressing photography as a business.
A class geared toward Real Estate professionals is also being scheduled, allowing those persons a better understanding of photography in general, with an emphasis on wide-angle shooting, best lighting practices for small spaces, a drone photography overview as well as how to best process images for use in the Real Estate marketplace.
