The Alabama Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries (WFF) recently completed a major launching slab repair to the McIntosh Bluff Public Boat Ramp located on the west bank of the Tombigbee River off County Road 35 (River Road) behind the Olin Corporation factory in McIntosh, Alabama.
The launching slab had been damaged due to erosion from underground springs. The newly repaired ramp reopened to the public on Friday, December 6, 2019. WFF will install aggregate stone along the shoulders of the launching slab when water from the winter rains has receded in the spring of 2020.
“The McIntosh boat ramp has played a significant part in the outdoor activities here for many years,” said State Rep. Brett Easterbrook, who represents Alabama House District 65, which includes McIntosh. “I am thankful that it has been repaired and will be safe for our citizens for years to come.”
“Increasing public boating and angling access to our beautiful Alabama waters is a priority for the Department and we are excited about the completion of this project,” said Chris Blankenship, Commissioner of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
This project was funded through the federal Sport Fish Restoration Program, which is supported through excise taxes on the sale of outboard motor fuel and fishing equipment and through the sale of state fishing licenses.
