Chipley receives grant funding for prep work for solar plant ………….

Announcement came at Tuesday’s meeting of the Chipley City Council that the city has been approved for a $276,000 grant from the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity to conduct a feasibility study that will determine the most suitable location and cost associated with developing a new solar plant to improve the city’s ability to attract new business.

Responding to  other council agenda items council members took the following actions:

  •  Approved the First Reading of Ordinance No. 959 – Sale of Municipal Real Property.
  •  Approved the First Reading of Resolution No. 2-09 – Permitting the CRA to procure Professional Services.
  •   Approved Resolution No. 20-10 – FDOT M-SCOP Application  submission for Pecan Street.

In separate action council members decided to use the American Flag in street displays only on the following schedule:

  •  Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
  •  Washington’s Birthday
  •  Memorial Day
  • Flag Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Columbus Day
  • Election Day through Veterans Day

Council members also talked with Christina Aycock regarding the Mongovern Building.  She reported that she is currently cleaning the inside of the structure, saving historical items and removing those items to a  different location for storage.  Additionally, she said a structural engineer would be looking at the building and she is getting a contractor to look at the roof.

Council members agreed to a six month extension on her timeline for work.

Responding to comments from Councilman Kevin Russell regarding the appearance of some downtown stores, council members suggested something be done to improve the appearance of some of the unoccupied stores.
