An Open Letter to the Citizens of Vernon, Florida
A recent news report incorrectly characterized a situation involving the status of a parcel of property located at the Vernon SportsPlex on Moss Hill Road, and we would like to offer to you the basic facts and an explanation.
The City of Vernon has worked diligently over the past few years to come to an agreement with the party who owns an area located adjacent to the Vernon SportsPlex and on which the current entry driveway to the facility lies.
After much discussion, and involvement of third party negotiation, an agreement was forged to allow access to the property in question in order to allow uninterrupted access to the facility, used mainly by children enrolled in sports programs and by the general public as a park and as a special event venue.
Recently the negotiations fell apart, with additional demands presented to the City of Vernon, and Vernon City officials realized that they would not be able to come to an amicable and simple solution or agreement.
Legal representation for the City of Vernon is currently handling the matter and hopefully the situation will be resolved amicably in the near future, but any additional information will be forthcoming from the Vernon City Attorney, Michelle Jordan, and any questions about this matter should be directed to her.
Until then, please know and understand that the Vernon City Council is diligently working towards ensuring that Vernon citizens, especially children, have access to the SportsPlex recreational facilities, along with recreational programs and organized sports to allow the offer of well-balanced activities to the City.
Thank you for your understanding and patience until this matter is legally resolved.
Tracy Walker, Vernon City Clerk for Mayor Laura Brewer and the Vernon City Council
