Chipley presents Christmas Decoration Awards ……………………..

The Chipley City Council started their Feb. 11th meeting by presenting the Christmas Decoration Awards to the following five families:

  •  Ward 1 – Monica Rehberg
  •  Ward 2 – Willie Mae Cook
  •  Ward 3 – Joshua Lowery
  •  Ward 4 – Edgar and Tamara DonJuan
  •  Ward 5 – Brock and Emily Farrar

The winners were congratulated for helping make Chipley a prettier town over the 2019 Christmas season.

Moving on to other agenda items, council members took the following actions in 5-0 votes:

  • Approved Ordinance No. 959 (Public Hearing) – Amendment to Chapter 2, Article VI – Sale of Municipal Real Property.
  •  Approval of Ordinance No. 960 (First Reading) – Amendment to Chapter 11 Private Property Standards and Abatement of Nuisances.
  •  Approval of Resolution No. 20-11 – Granting a six month extension for work to be completed on the Mongoven Building.
  •  Approval of Resolution No. 20-12 – Amendment to the Policy Regarding Placement of Flags in the downtown area.
  •  Approval of the FDOT SCOP West Boulevard Agreement for Engineering Services (CEI) with Davis H. Melvin, Inc.
  •  Approval of the reappointment of Code Enforcement Board Members Suzan Gage and Barbara James.
  •  Approval of a Special Event Application for the ‘Relay for Life’       Team Runner’s High 5K and Kids Fun Run.

Council members also discussed a Request for Proposals for CRA Consulting Services and decided to put the issue on the agenda for a special March 3rd 6 p.m. meeting.

 

Department Head reports including the following information:

  • Recreation Department – Councilman Kevin Russell said the City is looking at work needing to be done on several recreation areas and is developing cost estimates for needed work.
  •  Chipley Fire Chief Floyd Aycock said “things are going good” and added that  the department will be applying for grant funds for a new fire truck.
  •  Chipley Police Chief Scott Thompson his department “had a good month”, but they are still short one person in the department.
  •  The Public Works Department head Guy Lane said they have been busy doing a lot of clean-up work and added that Amnesty Days will be held in April.
