City of Vernon, Florida Cancels Use of City Facilities Including Community Center, Effective Immediately

By | March 20, 2020

Vernon, Florida City Clerk Tracy Walker has advised that the City of Vernon has cancelled the use of City facilities, including the Community Center adjacent to City Hall, effectively immediately, in response to the COVID-19 virus.

The Vernon City Council made the decision in the regular monthly meeting on Thursday, March 19, 2020, in which they also discussed the Vernon Recreation Department and upcoming ballgames and tournaments.

‘We will revisit this matter in the next two weeks’, said Vernon City Council President Joey Brock, ‘but as of right now, we will not be using these City facilities, in order to conform with State and Federal guidelines in response to the health epidemic’.

Vernon also installed a new Mayor and a new City Council member on Thursday, March 19, 2020 in the City Council Chambers, to the applause of family and friends.

Candice Hodges was elected to the position of Mayor with no opposition earlier this month, and former Mayor Laura Olene Brewer was elected as City Council member after stepping down from that office.

Vernon, Florida City Hall is located at 2808 Yellow Jacket Drive in Vernon, Florida and any additional information may be obtained by contacting Tracy Walker, City Clerk at 850-535-2444 or email Clerk@VernonFL.com.

Vernon City Council Workshops are held on the first Monday of each month and Council Meetings are held on the third Monday of each month, and all meetings are held at 5:30PM in Room 6 at Vernon City Hall.
