Congratulations to Dr. Martha Monroe, School of Forest Resources and Conservation Professor, for receiving the Faculty Doctoral Mentoring Award. This award celebrates the excellence, innovation, and effectiveness in mentoring doctoral and masters students through their final dissertation or thesis project.

Not only is her mentoring style highly effective, Monroe has the ability to get students motivated and excited on their own visions of the future. She states; “Successful mentoring prepares my students to become leaders in research and practice, with a critical yet visionary outlook, and with passion and focus to help bring our world closer to sustainability.” Monroe’s unique mentoring style revolves around guidance, quality control, community support, and most importantly, the individual needs of that student.

Recently, Monroe enjoys staying in touch with her graduate students through zoom for weekly lab meetings and individual discussions about research projects. “The potluck dinners won’t happen this semester,” said Monroe. “However, we know a bit more about how our families are coping with COVID-19 from Germany to China and points in between.”
