Released by the Washington County School District    …

This week Governor DeSantis announced plans to begin re-opening Florida.  Phase 1 will begin Monday, May 4.  For this phase school campuses will remain closed.  However, our teachers and staff are continuing our distance learning plans.  I want to encourage everyone to stay engaged, keep our students moving forward toward learning and progression and preparation for next school year.  This School District in continuing to follow our posted school calendar to finish the 219-2020 School Year.  In addition, our Lunchroom Staff are continuing to prepare meals for our students.

On Monday, FPTC will being a “soft” re-opening to continue with face-to-face skill training for their students.  FPTC instructors are contacting those students and providing direction for them to begin their work.  With this “soft” re-opening our District will continue to follow the guidelines and recommendations from CDC and DOH regarding social distancing.

As we look forward, we are waiting for two to three more weeks to hear if guidelines will be relaxed to the District can finalize plans for our high schools to hold graduation services.  Yes, we will have graduation, but there is still uncertainty as to how we will be having this special event for our seniors.  Regarding summer, we are moving forward and planning for our Extended School Year Program, our Summer Reading Camp and our summer food service program.  At this time, we do not know if this will be conducted on our campuses, or if we will continue distance education and delivery of meals.  Please continue to monitor our district website and follow us on Facebook for the most up-to-date information.

Please feel free to contact me at any time with questions.

Sincerely,

Joseph Taylor
