‘At times like this, it’s all about putting in the work, developing relationships and nurturing economic development, and being able to count on business associates and friends in time of need’, said Washington County, Florida Commissioner District 5 Steve Joyner on Friday, August 14, 2020.
Joyner was referring to the ongoing relationship between the Washington County Commission and the Nestle Company, as Joyner delivered water provided by the Nestle Company to Vernon public schools.
The Nestle Company harvests and bottles drinking water from pristine Washington County aquifers, much to the benefit of Washington County residents, in the form of taxes and a continued relationship such as evidenced in Vernon on Friday.
Seeing the need, especially as the much-delayed school opening date nears, the Washington County Commission petitioned Nestle to donate several pallets of bottled water for the use of school children.
Washington County Commission Chairman Tray Hawkins and Commissioner Steve Joyner partnered in the effort to secure the donation, which was delivered by Steve Joyner along with Nestle’s Mikeal Stacher on Friday afternoon.
Local school officials and volunteers helped to move the water, which was delivered to Vernon Elementary School, Vernon Middle School and Vernon High School.
‘This is a loving, giving community’, said Joyner as he mopped sweat from his face at Vernon High School, ‘and we can always count on that community to be a part of the solution to any problem life sends our way, and we appreciate that’.
