The Wausau, Florida Town Council met in regular session on Thursday, August 13, 2020 to discuss, among other issues, the finances of the municipality and the upcoming budget process for fiscal year 2020-2021.

Wausau Town Council members heard from Wausau Town Clerk Margaret Riley that Workers Compensation Insurance and Liability Insurance rates for the municipality would be significantly higher this coming year, in large part due to the ‘Gothard’ and ‘Jones’ lawsuits and claims.

In the case of the ‘Gothard’ suit, the claim stemmed from a Federal lawsuit filed against the Town of Wausau by Patricia Lynn Gothard, who is currently seeking the position of Washington County Commissioner for District 5, for which Gothard subsequently was awarded a $25,000 settlement.

On Thursday, the Wausau, Florida Town Council agreed to schedule a workshop to address the 2020-2021 fiscal year budget, tentatively set for August 27, 2020 at the Wausau Town Hall.
