Edsel Sherman Burke, Sr., 76 years old, and his wife Mary Elizabeth Lock Burke, 70 years old, from Youngstown, FL, went to Heaven on Monday, August 10, 2020.
Our parents went to heaven. Dad always said ladies first. Mom left in the morning and Dad met her later that afternoon. Our parents were big hearted and would help anyone they could. Our home was always open and full of love and laughter. Our mom was a stay at home parent and Dad was a contractor. Dad owned Edsel Burke Construction. Mom was known for great cooking and a loving smile. Dad was known for his craftsmanship and big heart.
On warm summer evenings you could find them having coffee on the front porch, sharing their day with each other. Our dad was a life member of the Masonic Lodge Parker, FL # 142 and a Shaddai Shrine member of the Buccaneer Unit. Mom always supported Dad in his memberships.
Mom and Dad left behind seven children: Becky (Josh) Turner, Eddie Burke, Eric (Stacy) Burke, Sareena (Keith) Welch, Liz (Matthew) Daughtry, Jeannie (Jimmy) Elmore and Janice (David) Farmer; 16 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and number of nieces and nephews. Dad also left behind two sisters, Annette Lasher and Kitty Barefoot, also a brother, George Burke.
A special thanks to our cousin Scotty Smith and his family for all you have done for our parents.
Dad was preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Emma Burke, two children, Peggy and Mark Burke, two sisters, Martha Stackhouse and Osceola Brown, and four brothers, Tampa, Bowers, Ford, and Walter Burke. Mom was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Thelma Lock, and brother Edward Lock.
They will forever be in our hearts and on our minds. We will miss you Mom and Dad. They are now in Heaven riding on the streets of gold in Dad’s old pickup truck. No more dusty roads for them.
Memorialization will be by cremation, with Obert Funeral Home in Chipley, Florida in charge of arrangements.
