The Dauphin Island Sea Lab Marine Mammal Research Program reported that a sperm whale was seen in Mobile Bay this week and is stranded near Montrose.
Biologists with the Alabama Marine Mammal Stranding Network are trying to aid the large whale and say that the prognosis is poor.
Authorities are asking people to keep their distance and not fly drones over the animal as more stress for the whale will not have positive results.
The whale was first spotted in Mobile Bay on Thursday, November 20, 2020, according to observers, and this is the first recorded stranding of a sperm whale in the state of Alabama.
