Florida Department of Transportation Warns of Traffic Disruptions in Washington and Homes County, Florida

According to spokespersons from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), drivers will encounter traffic disruptions on the following state roads in Holmes and Washington counties as crews perform construction and maintenance activities.

In observance of the upcoming holiday season, there will be no lane closures on state roads from 7 a.m. Thursday, December 24 to 12:01 AM Monday, January 4, 2021. These lane closure restrictions include both construction and maintenance activities. 

Holmes County:

  • State Road (S.R.) 2 Safety Improvements at County Road (C.R.) 173- The intersection is now a full 4-Way Stop. Motorists are reminded to pay attention and use extreme caution.

Washington County:

  • S.R. 79 Widening from North of Mill Branch Bridge to Interstate 10– There will be intermittent lane shifts on northbound S.R. 79 between Clayton Road in Washington County and Thomas Drive in Holmes County from 7 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9 to 7 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15. Crews are completing work activities in preparation to open the northbound travel lanes between Court Street in Vernon and Thomas Drive in Bonifay.

All activities are weather dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. Drivers are reminded to use caution when traveling through a work zone and to watch for construction workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway.
