Walton County commissioners could make a final decision Tuesday on whether Gulf Power will be allowed to construct an 868-acre solar power facility in the north county.
The proposed solar facility is planned for a site at Harrison Road and Brown Road about 3 miles east of U.S. Highway 331 North. It is part of a joint effort by Gulf Power and Florida Power and Light to install 30 million solar panels across Florida by 2030, and is planned to generate 74.5 megawatts of electricity.
A single megawatt of electricity is enough to power the average family home for a little more than a month.
According to Gulf Power, the site was chosen in part because one of its transmission lines crosses the tract, which would make for an easy connection to the solar generation facility.
The Gulf Power proposal is among the items the commission is set to consider at its meeting dedicated to planning and development issues.
