On March 4th, 2021at approximately 10:30 a.m. the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received a call regarding the theft of two motorcycles that was in progress on Edna Lane in the Bascom area. The owner of the motorcycles followed the suspects as they fled the scene northbound on River Rd. Shortly after the suspect vehicle turned south onto Timberlane Rd., the first responding Deputy observed both the suspect vehicle and the victim’s vehicle, close behind. As the Deputy began to overtake them, both vehicles swerved sharply off of the roadway. Before the vehicle came to a stop, the back seat passenger, later identified as Tommy Jake Jackson, jumped from the truck and fled into a wooded area. The victim made contact with the driver of the suspect vehicle, identified as Michael Lance Herndon, and physically restrained him until the Deputy could take custody. A female that was present during the theft, Ivy Anne Diaz, was also taken into custody without incident. The Jackson Correctional Institution and Apalachee Correctional Institution K-9 Tracking Teams responded. JCI established a track which led to the apprehension of Mr. Jackson.
