City of Vernon, Florida To Hold Election for City Council Members on Tuesday, March 9, 2021

The City of Vernon, Florida will hold an election for City Council members on Tuesday, March 9, 2021.

On Monday evening, March 1, 2021, the City Council in Vernon, Florida offered a few minutes to each candidate running for the soon-to-be-vacant City Council seats to introduce themselves and explain why they were running for office.

Candidates at this point who have qualified for City Council member include incumbent Becky Baxley, incumbent Joey Brock, Chad Jackson, Tony Lagman, incumbent Gwen March, former member Gary Owens and Mary Porteous.

Subjects of lively discussion included recruitment of business within the Vernon city limits, the challenges offered by the incomplete Hwy 79 project, policies and procedures.

Discussion also ensued concerning the possibility of voter fraud, as well as absentee voting and early voting.

Candice Hodges was unopposed as Vernon City Mayor and will retain that position.
