A.J. Kittrell, age 89, passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2021at Northwest Florida Community Hospital.
He was born on November 6, 1931 to J.C. and Stella Kittrell in the Dellwood, Florida community. A.J. attended Central Jr. High School and graduated June 4, 1948. He was always an avid fisherman which was his favorite sport.
His favorite place was Lake Seminole at Paramore Landing. He had many good days of fishing on the river with his favorite partner, Greg Tharp.
He always loved good country music. A.J. moved from Florida to Chicago, Illinois in June of 1952 where he worked for a short time at Alden’s Mail Order as an inventory clerk. He retired from Dixie Portland Flour Mills as a superintendant. Mr. Kittrell was also a deputy weigh master for Chicago Board of trade. He returned to Florida in 1977 were he owned and operated Kittrell’s Gulf Station and Bait and Tackle in Graceville, FL. A.J. later started hauling and selling fruit from South Florida in the winter months. He did the selling near the outlet mall in Graceville, FL and did this for 16 plus years. A.J. really enjoyed and viewed this more as a hobby than a job. He was always meeting different people from many countries and walks of life.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter; Cheryl Kittrell and two sisters; Nellie Kittrell and Nell Brumley.
A.J. is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patsy L. Kittrell of Chipley, FL; five daughters: Norma Kelly of Chipley, FL, Charlottee Allen and husband Lee of Marianna, FL, Peggy Meredith and husband Joe of Chipley, FL, Marilyn Byrd of Chipley, FL and Patti Goodman and husband Deion of Chipley, FL; two sisters: Dorothy Nichols and Sarah Curry both of Chipley, FL; 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Funeral service for A.J., were held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, March 8, 2021 at Brown Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles Davis officiating. Interment followed in the Glenwood Cemetery. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service.
