On March 24, 2021 A deputy stopped a blue pickup truck on Thomas Drive for speeding.
The driver was identified as James Montana Carmichael, from Caryville. While the deputy was talking with the driver K9 Lasso was utilized for a free air drug sniff on the exterior of the vehicle.
K9 Lasso gave a positive alert to the presence of illegal narcotics.
A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted and located in between the front and passenger seat within reach of the driver and front passenger was a plastic baggy containing methamphetamine.
The front seat passenger who was identified as Kimberly S. Helms of Caryville along with Carmichael was placed under arrest.
A search of Carmichael’s person revealed another plastic baggy containing methamphetamine in his pocket.
Carmichael faces charges of possession of meth and possession of narcotic equipment.
Helms was charged with possession of narcotic equipment.
