Elder Joseph Peterson, Sr. of Vernon, FL. passed on March 18, 2021 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his wife & children. He was a life-long native of Washington County, FL.
Joseph was born on January 13, 1952 to the late Robert James and Corine (Potter) Peterson in Vernon, FL. Being raised in a Christian home he accepted Christ as his personal Savior in 1975. Joseph attended public school in Washington County, FL and attended Vernon High School, graduating in the Class of 1971. He also attended the Washington-Holmes Vocational & Technical School where he would receive a certificate in auto body work.
One of the happiest moments of his life was on July 5, 1973 when he became united in Holy Matrimony to Winnie Jean Bell.
He leaves to cherish his memories his beloved wife of 47 years: Missionary Winnie J. Peterson of Vernon, FL; three children: Angela (Sean) Green of Sunny Hills, FL and Karen (Boris) Peterson and Joseph Peterson, Jr., both of Vernon, FL; 11 grandchildren: ZeToyra, Sean II, Aaliyah, ShiQuan, LaQuasha, Shyron, Shayla, Jyh’Kerius, Jazlynn, Javonte’, and Shikarian; three great-grandchildren: ZeLaysia, Noah, and expecting baby girl, Zyauna; seven siblings: Rev. Richard (Gloria) Peterson, Missionary Mary (Henry) Smith, Missionary Betty (Willie, Jr.) Brown, Helen (Carl) Hogans, all of Vernon, FL, Pastor Priscilla (Bishop Randy) Williams of Panama City, FL, Amos (Emma) Peterson of Cottondale, FL, and Sallie (Henry) Campbell, of San Antonio, TX; three sisters-in-law: Missionary Katherleen (Min. Carson) Jackson, Missionary Willie Mae Andrews, both of Vernon, FL, and Beverly Bell of Panama City, FL; three brothers-in-law: James Bell, Sr., Monroe (Tanya) Bell, both of Vernon, FL and Melvin Douglas, of Ebro, FL; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings: Missionary Effie (Dea. Paul) Reed, Flora Mae Douglas, and Lonnie Peterson.
