Washington County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a residence off Hwy 77 in reference to a physical disturbance at approximately 7:31 p.m. on March 27th.

Deputies arrive on scene to find the victim with visible injury to her right eye. She stated her husband punched her in the face before leaving the residence after a verbal argument. A short time later, her husband, 60-year-old, Style Tyrone Coatney returned to the residence while law enforcement was on scene.

As deputies attempt to make contact with Coatney, he began accelerating the engine and spinning the tires in an attempt to back out of the driveway. Deputies activate their emergency lights and blocked the driveway. Coatney accelerated making contact with one of the patrol cars and continued all efforts to flee authorities.

The pursuit made its way to Hwy 77 where Coatney continued at high rates of speed and reckless driving. An off-duty deputy with the WCSO had to exit the roadway to avoid a collision with Coatney. Coatney then made his way to the shoulder of the road where he made an abrupt stop. Deputies, along with the off-duty officer, detained Coatney without further incident.

With Coatney in custody, deputies observe pills in the driver’s seat of the vehicle. Also, during the pursuit Coatney attempted to discard additional illegal items out the window of the vehicle.

Coatney was arrested and booked into the Washington County Jail on charges of battery, flee and elude, aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, tampering with or attempting to destroy evidence, possession of a controlled substance without prescription and possession of drug paraphernalia.
